Washington National Cathedral

 Although built in modern times, it's soaring medieval Gothic in style. Wisconsin and Massachusetts Aves. NW, tel. 202/537-6200. Open fall, winter, and spring, daily 10-4:30; May 1-Labor Day, weekdays 10-9, weekends 10-4:30. Sun. services at 8, 9, 10, 11, 6:30; evensong at 4 PM. White House

Admission free. Open Tues.-Sat. 10-noon. White House is occasionally closed without notice for official functions. Baby strollers are not allowed on tour.

National Museum of American History

Exploring America's cultural, political, technical, and scientific past, it shows off a steam locomotive, Muhammad Ali's boxing glove, and Nancy Reagan's inaugural gown. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

In a clear and often graphic fashion, the museum tells the stories of the 11 million Jews, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, political prisoners, and others killed by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945. 100 Raoul Wallenberg Pl.
